So I decided to set myself a challenge to self-produce (and solely perform on) an A-Z of original songs!
'Alphabet Songbook' was all recorded using the basic GarageBand app on my IPad, and recorded mostly in my flat, over the space of 9 months in 2013.
I wanted this collection to incorporate a wide range of musical styles and sounds to represent the diversity of human emotions and experiences.

'Alphabet Songbook' includes songs that I have written way back in my teenage years, more recent ones, as well as some that have been written during the recording process.
Some key themes that are explored in this collection include...
positive energies... such as:
And negative energies, such as: War...Violence...Money...Addiction...Hate...Fear...Racism...Loss...
I have been affected deeply by all of these themes at one time or another....
and It seems to me....that this life is a sort of balancing act between these positive and negative forces...
...It's a learning process... There's things we can't control, for sure!..
So we must focus on the things that we can change!
It must be our goal to focus on developing the positive force within us, so that we can inspire others to do the same...
I have been lucky enough to discover that meditation is a really simple way to help all people focus on developing their positive energies and their spiritual understanding, regardless of their religious beliefs.
[P.S. For an easy but effective way to feel the benefits of meditation right now!, try following the simple steps below]
Listen to this collection in order, through quality headphones, sitting in a relaxed cross-legged position with your eyes closed and the knuckles of your left hand resting on the palm of the other.
Don't worry too much about being in the correct position, as long as you are relaxed, this exercise can still be a very positive experience first time!...
Just enjoy listening to the music, focusing on relaxing and listening to how each instrument sounds and how they interact and connect with each other as one piece of music.
Start off hearing/feeling each instrument as separate, by focusing on just the drums, or just the guitar, or just the bass etc... and you get a sense that the music is similar to your human body... made up of unique parts all working together to create something powerful and beautiful.
Remember, the most important thing is to relax your mind by just listening to the music, but it's all about feeling the oneness of the different instruments in the music and at the same time, the oneness of your human body... of both of your legs, and both of your arms, both your hands. You can then start to feel the oneness of your whole body and at the same time, you will realize that your mind and body are one. Thoughts will come and go, but you don't need to worry about them, just let them come and go.
With a little faith and perseverance, you should start to feel that you are part of the music. Your mind and body are not separate things, but just different forms of the same positive energy that is in the music.
Everything is different forms of the same positive energy! We are all connected through God/Love/The Universe!
And there will come a point when it just all clicks into place!.. and you just realize that you are connected to the God/Love/The Universe in a simple and indescribably beautiful way!
(Usually when you take the pressure off yourself.. and just enjoy what you're doing without thinking negatively about it.)
When you experience this, it is sometimes called enlightenment or an awakening and you may feel the need to share what you have experienced with others like I am doing now, you may also feel the need to meditate more often and you should be able to get to this enlightened/awakened state easier the more you practice.
The saying 'Good things come to those who wait' comes to mind, It took me many attempts to experience this powerful realization. But everyone is different, and for a lot of people it can be reached after only a few attempts. But again, for me, it happened when I stopped thinking about it, and just enjoyed feeling the oneness of my human body and hearing the oneness of the music. The important thing to do, is keep doing it! Don't give up! You can connect with God/Love/The Universe anywhere, at any time, through meditation!
After a while of meditating with music, you should be able to meditate without music and eventually with your eyes open too.
When you are ready for this stage, just focus on the faint sounds of your surroundings and fix your sight on a set spot in the room.
Meditation has been (and continues to be) an amazingly positive thing in my life, and It can be the same for you too!
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" Matthew 7:7
